More games to come on Xbox One backwards compatibility as the team changes focus – GameSpew

For the past four years, Xbox One gamers have been treated to a drop of Xbox 360 and original Xbox games made playable on Xbox One. And for Xbox One X owners, some of them have even been improved.

However, it’s now over as Microsoft has moved away from legacy game compatibility with Xbox One to make all games currently playable on the console compatible with its next-gen hardware.

Microsoft aims to make all games currently playable on Xbox One, including those playable through backward compatibility, playable on its next-gen console. And as you can imagine, it’s no small job. He also hinted that most games will look and play better on his next-gen console, which is currently codenamed Project Scarlett.

To come out in style, a huge latest batch of games have been made compatible with the Xbox One. Think of it as a swan song. They are:

Original xbox

  • Armed and dangerous
  • Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb
  • Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Theory of Chaos
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent
  • Unreal Championship 2: The Lliadri Conflict

Xbox 360

  • asura’s fury
  • Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
  • Enchanted weapons
  • Slave: Odyssey to the West
  • Far Cry Classic
  • Far Cry Instincts Predator
  • Infinity undiscovered
  • Peter Jackson’s King Kong: the official video game for the movie
  • Prince of Persia, the forgotten sands
  • Skate
  • Star Ocean: The Last Hope
  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
  • Union
  • Too human
  • Unreal Tournament III

The news is sure to hit those who wanted more games to become backward compatible – there are still plenty of classics out there that are only playable on older consoles. With over 600 games now in the backward compatibility catalog, however, there is something to be thankful for. Not only has Microsoft made it possible for Xbox One gamers to play some of the older games they own on their current generation console for free, but in most cases they’ve been improved in some way as well.

It should also be noted that Too human was made available for free, so if you don’t already have it, be sure to add it to your library. And eight already backward compatible titles received the Xbox One X enhancement treatment. They are:

  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Banjo-Kazooie nuts and bolts
  • Banjo-Tooie
  • Elements of Kameo Power
  • Dark perfect
  • Perfect black zero
  • Via Pinata
  • Via Pinata: Trouble in Paradise

It is not yet known whether Microsoft will resume efforts to make certain Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles playable on Project Scarlett in the future. But we like to think it will. We still have great games such as Binary domain and Max payne 3 that we want to play without having to dig up our old consoles.
