DESEO - February 2007
February 2007
All
the project officers met again in Bergen, Norway this time hosted by
MAR-ECO (Jo Hoyer and Morten Steffenson). Discussions were held about
the travelling deep-sea exhibition - "Deeper than Light" that MAR-ECO
have been working on, and the accompanying book also called Deeper than
Light. The book is mainly written by the DESO members with introduction
and conclusions by Professors Paul Tyler and Peter Boyle.
Our
plan is that a hard cover book of about 80 pages will be produced
comprising factual text on the different habitats and the technology
used to explore them as well as stories highlighting the unique living
conditions of the deep sea. Illustrations conveying the hidden beauty
of the deep sea, using both photographic images and paintings, will be
the second major focus aside from the text which will be free of
technical terms but scientifically correct and educational. Our aim is
for the book to be translated into the language of the country where
the exhibition will be held.
The
Deeper than Light exhibition will be officially inaugurated at UNESCO,
Paris on 27 March 2007 before travelling to Porto (Portugal) for an
opening on 1 June 2007. Other potential locations for the exhibition
are Lisbon (Portugal), Genoa (Italy) and Aberdeen (Scotland, UK). Even
more are in the pipeline!

Personal
note from the EuroCoML Project Officer: Having recently seen the
exhibition I would highly recommend anyone and everyone to go and visit
it if at all possible. Please come back here to visit for dates and
locations for the travelling exhibition.
