EuroCoML outline
Introduction and background to the EuroCoML project
The European Census of Marine Life (EuroCoML) headquarters is based
at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, with Professors Henn
Ojaveer (Estonia) and Isabel Sousal-Pinto (Portgal) as its co-Chairs and
Dr Bhavani Narayanaswamy as the Project Coordinator.
EuroCoML is a Regional Implementation Committee for the global Census of Marine Life project.
EuroCoML’s aims are:

EuroCoML’s aims are:
- To expand partnerships and coordination with relevant European programmes and organisations also in tandem with the general growth of the CoML
- To increase European participation in several particular CoML projects where untapped potential remains
- To improve marine taxonomy and species data in the European region;
- To improve biodiversity and ecosystem information for applied resource management in waters where European nations hold major influence.
Both the Executive and Scientific Steering committees comprise of scientists from throughout Europe.
EuroCoML is funded by the TOTAL Foundation and the Alfred Sloan Foundation
